Super 8 + Polaroids

Unlike some, I actually had a good experience in high school so it's always great to be contacted by old friends. Mackenzie and I went to high school together and she asked me to capture her morning preparations and first look for her Philadelphia wedding to Erek. Happy to oblige, I hopped on a train from NYC and arrived in Philly for a beautiful fall day in October.

I captured the day both on Super 8 and a couple of packs of Instax instant film with my custom Polaroid 110B camera. The instant photos always have a certain charm to them that digital doesn't quite have. Plus being able to show the couple the photo mere minutes after taking it is really sweet.

It all came out beautifully as we strolled around Philly and went to the Swann Fountain for the first look and then the to the Franklin Institute for a few photos. Philly treated me well and it was a great escape from NYC for a day to shoot this for an old friend!

Brooke & Andrew Wedding // Super 8 + Polaroids

New York City weddings are always spectacular and this wedding was no exception. Gramercy Park Hotel has an amazing aesthetic to it and Brooke and Andrew's wedding definitely showcases that. Everything from the flowers to Brooke's amazing dress and just the wedding overall was pretty incredible and the couple were very sweet as well.

This was a late October wedding and the weather was perfect for the terrace where the ceremony and reception were held. I shot the wedding on Super 8 and even tossed in a few Polaroids for fun.

It's always so fun to shoot weddings on Super 8 and black and white really lends itself to the nostalgic aesthetic. I shot their wedding preparations as well as their first look on a roll of black and white film and it's definitely a bit of magic seeing it on film. And the color film is stunning as well! BoHo Styled Wedding Shoot // Super 8 + Polaroids

Recently I had the chance to capture a boho styled shoot organized by a group of amazing creatives here in NYC. It was out on Randall's Island on a pretty dang frigid day in January but ultimately it was worth it. I definitely needed some hand-warmers after this shoot was over! So check out the Super 8 I shot as well as the Instax Wide instant photos I took with my custom Polaroid 110B. It truly was a gorgeous shoot!

Patrick & Rachel Wedding // Super 8

I finally have the finished version of Patrick and Rachel's Super 8 film from their gorgeous April wedding in Brooklyn! You can view some more of the Polaroids I took at their wedding in my previous blog post but for this post, it will be about their Super 8 film.

As per their request, I shot their first look as well as some of their prep on a black and white Tri-X roll that looks wonderful projected and then the main ceremony on Kodak Vision3 color negative film. Overall, it came out brilliantly thanks to the gorgeous bride and groom as well as the wonderful setting and decor. I also had some help shooting from my wonderful fiancée throughout the day and could not be more thankful for her. Anyways, you can see their final film below.

My Interview with the Phoblographer

I met the Phoblographer, otherwise known as Chris Gampat, at a recent pinhole photography event with Lomography NYC. He recently ran a contest on the subreddit r/Polaroid He moderates. My photo was the runner-up with the reclaimed Polaroid negative of the wedding flowers below. I was so happy to be able to speak with him about my business and love for photography for a feature on his blog.

“People loved the nostalgic quality and texture that the instant film had plus the couples loved that it was a photo memento they could hold almost immediately.” says Photographer Nick Collingwood, who describes himself as a motion designer by day and film addict roughly 24/7. “…With the slower process for the Polaroids, it puts the importance on creating interesting situations to photograph on film vs capturing candid shots made easy with modern autofocus cameras.”

Based in Brooklyn, he has an affinity for Super 8 and Instant film. This love of the analogue world and culture was recently turned into a business of his: he second shoots as a wedding photographer and focuses on weddings.

Oh yeah, and he loves talking about gear.
